Most of the hotels in Addis Ababa are based in and around the airport area. The international airport is called Bole as is the local area to it. The airport is situated in the south east of the capital. There are new hotels opening at a fast rate in Addis Ababa and we will be adding all of them as they open their doors to the public.
Travellers should be aware of some names of hotels and not to confuse them with the international brands. Examples of this “The Intercontinental” and “The Regency” are not part of the international chain. On the other hand the “Radisson Blu“, “Hilton” and “Sheraton” hotels are.
Power failure is common in Addis Ababa. Most hotel of note have back up power supplies. Be aware that many smaller outlets will not have this.
Internet connection is not as fast as you will find in Europe, Middle East or USA. Many hotels have wifi or at least plug in connection either in their rooms or in the lobby area. Internet is expensive compared to other parts of the world, so do not expect it to be free in lower graded outlets.
A huge pet hate of ours worldwide is high end hotels charging for internet. In our opinion you are already paying a high rate and it should be a service provided free of charge. Addis Ababa of course has some of these hotels.
